Dr. Thomas Driebe
German Space Agency at DLR, Germany

The German Space Agency at DLR undertakes statutory tasks in the space sector on behalf of the German Federal Government. Under the 'Raumfahrtaufgabenübertragungsgesetz' and within the scope of the tasks effectively assigned to it, the agency implements the space strategy of the Federal Government, develops and manages the national space programme, and represents the interests of the Federal Republic of Germany in the space-related international context. The space agency advises the Federal Government and develops initiatives and strategic approaches for space policy. Its activities are based on the guidelines laid down by the Federal Government in its space strategy.

In this presentation a short overview on the program and activities of the Research & Exploration department of the German Space Agency at DLR is given. This includes the national program as well as ESA-related and international projects and covers research and astronautical exploration in low-earth orbit and towards Moon and the Mars.
